Powering the Hyundai Electric Vehicles
The Hyundai electric vehicles sit atop the Electric Global Modular Platform called the E-GMP. This platform includes a scalable wheelbase with the battery, motors, and power electrical system. At DC fast-charging stations, the E-GMP can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes, and the platform has safety features built into the high-strength steel frame with a low center of gravity.
The unique electrical system includes the Vehicle to Load (V2L) system that lets Hyundai EV drivers use the vehicle’s battery as a generator to charge phones, laptops, TVs, or small appliances.
Hyundai offers the IONIQ 5 with two batteries – a 58.0-kWh battery in the Standard Range models and a 77.4-kWh battery in the Long Range dual-motor models. The dual-motor IONIQ 5 has 320 horsepower. The IONIQ 6 comes with a 77.4-kWH battery with one or two electric motors, and the dual-motor models deliver 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. The Kona EV has a 64.0-kWh battery with 201 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
Styling Features in the Kona and IONIQ EVs
The entry-level 2023 IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range EV has rear-wheel drive and 220 miles of range. It includes cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and matching touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, navigation, Bluetooth SiriusXM Satellite Radio, five USB ports, and a six-speaker sound system.
The IONIQ 6 SE Standard Range has similar equipment but with four USB ports. Both IONIQ models have dual-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, a push-button start, and proximity keyless entry.
The smaller Kona Electric SE has cloth upholstery with heated front seats and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, HD Radio, three USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system.
Caring For Hyundai Electric Vehicles
Caring for Hyundai electric vehicles is less time-consuming than caring for any vehicles with gas-powered engines. Most routine maintenance service visits include tire rotations, multi-point inspections, and filter changes.
To extend the life of the EV battery, EV owners should follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging. Keep your EV clean, park it in the shade on hot days, and try not to let the battery drop below 20%. Charge your EV regularly to keep the battery from sitting idly for too long.
