How the "Car Allowance Rebate System" works
According to information released to date regarding provisions of the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save program of 2009, the Car Allowance Rebate System works like this:

Currently, eligible trade-in vehicles are described as such:
    
     1)     Built in 1984 or later.
     2)     Gets 18MGP or less in combined city/highway driving as per the EPA
     3)     Is in drivable condition.
     4)     Is registered and insured in the customer's name for at least a year.

New vehicles eligible for purchase must meet the following requirements:

     1)     New cars must get at least 22MPG in combined city/highway driving as per EPA
     2)     New Car MSRP must not exceed $45,000.
     3)     New Small light-duty trucks must get at least 18MPG in combined  city/highway  

The credit amount you qualify for will be based on the difference in combined MPG ratings between your trade-in vehicle and your new credit-eligible Hyundai.

The intent of this government program is to encourage consumers to trade-in their old, low fuel economy vehicles for new, more fuel-efficient vehicles.  This will help to improve the environment and, at the same time, stimulate new car sales for the auto industry.  This new law has an effective date of July 1st.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to get a voucher or sign up for this program?
No.  You do not need a coucher and you are not required to sign up or enroll in this program.  Brandon Hyundai Mitsubishi will apply a credit, reducing the price you pay at the time of your purchase or lease, provided the vehicle you buy or lease and the vehicle you trade in meet the program requirements.  Brandon Hyundai Mitsubishi will then obtain reimbursement from the government.

How do I know if a dealer is participating in the program?
The law requires dealers to be registered to participate in the program.  Brandon Hyundai Mitsubishi is one of the first registered dealers in the Tampa Bay area.

How do I find out the combined city/highway fuel economy rating of my trade-in vehicle?
